If there’s one food stuff that screams ‘summer’s here!’, it’s the humble strawberry. Ripe, red and sweet, smothered in lashings of clotted cream, it’s the perfect summer snack.
We prize these delicious little fruits – and so did our ancestors.
In South America, before the Europeans arrived, bringing their money with them, strawberries were traded. Native Americans used them as traditional medicine, particularly to support women during birth and child-rearing.
