AS I REMEMBER Overflowing the banks
People are familiar with the iconic photos of the 1948 Fraser Valley flood and stories of the earlier 1894 flood, but each area has its own stories. Yarrow’s flood stories, the stories of the Vedder Canal, and the stories of people in the sweep of the Fraser east to Rosedale are unique to the area.
Though I was born thirty-four years after the 1894 flood, I worked, mainly on farms, with many different people in the 1940s and 1950s who had been through the 1894 flood and retained the memories of the flooding in the early years. They passed on the information to me on different occasions.
