THE RALLYCROSS SPRINGBOARD FOR FUTURE STARDOM
The latest crop of names leading the way in the Motorsport UK Junior Rallycross Championship, such as Luke Constantine and Patrick O’Donovan, are on a trajectory that could lead to great things.
Not only is that because they have obvious natural talent, but they are also on a well-trodden path. By its very nature, rallycross is a mix of smooth circuit racing finesse combined with the car control required to rotate a vehicle on unsealed surfaces while maintaining forward momentum in rallying.
For that reason, many drivers competing at the highest level in a variety of disciplines started out in Junior RX where, from 14 years of age, a competitor can drive a real car on real circuits.
Since the concept was first publicly aired at Lydden Hill in 2002, Junior Rallycross has produced brilliant, close single-make racing and provided a learning ground for youngsters to gain experience. What follows is Motorsport News’s list of the top 10 Junior RX graduates.
