John “Spon” Respondek is one of surfing’s best shooters. He has been a professional photographer for over two decades, and he has logged in years of shooting before his passion project became a full-time gig. John has seen plenty of shifts both in his field and in the broader surf industry. He has worked with some incredible surfers and big brands, and has being published in every surf magazine in the world. We hope you enjoy our catch up with Spon as much as you enjoy his imagery.

Q. What’s been the heaviest shooting situation you have been in?

A couple of years ago, when we went to South Oz and were shooting a super-notorious slab. I won’t name it but this thing is psycho. It’s about 300 metres out to the reef, over a channel.
