When the Second World War started, the luxury transatlantic ocean liner RMS ordered to remain in dock at New York. She'd served well in her civilian role and now she was to be made ready for active wartime service. One of the many conversions that the ship received to prepare her for action was to have her hull, superstructure and funnels painted navy grey. As a result and in combination with her great speed, she became known as the Grey Ghost.
