We’re going on a bear hunt
The last couple of hours we have been spotting at a larger cutting block in the forest. Before we sat down, we found fresh excrement on the trail that runs through the clearing. From the amount and the size of it, this could be a big black bear, and that is exasctly what Jens Kjaer Knudsen hopes to find on this trip.
FIRST CONTACT
The hunt takes place on Vancouver Island in the Canadian state of British Columbia, where they have a dense number of what should be some of the world's largest black bears. The hunting concession, located at the northernmost end of the island, is 300 square kilometres, therefore we must drive around on forest roads in a Dodge Ram truck. The goal is to find good areas with signs of bear activity or to go to places where our chief guide, Ryan Leef, knows that big bears have their daily routine.
