I am writing to you about a weighty matter. I have enjoyed your magazine for 10 years, mostly as a subscriber. Over time I have noticed that bikes are getting significantly heavier, and am curious as to why that should be.

Looking back to your May 2010 issue, all but one of your eight aluminium-framed Bike of the Year candidates weighed less than 30lb; the lightest sported 140mm-travel and 26lb weight.
