Rumspringa is a rite of passage for Amish youth. It is a time when the Amish experiment and perhaps, live like an “English” man or woman; not the sequestered life their culture typically demands. It ends when a young adult either chooses to be baptized within the Amish church…or to leave the community.

Fritz Helmuth grew up horse-and-buggy Amish in Indiana. He was about 18 years old when he first saw car, at a Sunday night gathering of friends.
