Cruising Helmsman

Nanni heavy duty engine

MOST recreational diesel engines are rated to 250 to 1000 hours of running annually and one hour in 12 at wide open throttle (WOT). But not so the N4.50, which is rated up to 3000 hours.

Sure it has the same one hour in 12 at WOT but the additional running capacity infers the N4.50 was designed for a way longer service life than its direct competition. Unlike the trend towards electronically-managed common rail fuel injection, the N4.50 makes do with conventional in-line mechanical injection. This means that, when cruising to out of the way ports, you are more likely to find a mechanic who knows how to fix the engine should it develop a fuel delivery issue.
