Variation on an A Wagon

The earliest flat wagons on the NSWGR were the A wagons, imported from Wright Bros of Birmingham with the original Sydney Railway Co. order in 1855. These were 15'0" long, with a low (perhaps 6" high) coping around the edge of the deck. When local manufacture was called for in 1864, the specification added a fixed bolster in the centre of the deck (unlike the bolster on the 1858-introduced E wagon, which swivelled.)
