    Fernanda Melchor in Conversation with Nina MacLaughlin

    Tonight’s episode of the Transnational Literature Series is hosted by Brookline Books, in partnership with Point Reyes Books, and is Fernanda Melchor’s only US event to celebrate her International Booker Shortlisted novel, Hurricane Season (trans. Sophie Hughes).


    Born in Veracruz, Mexico, in 1982, Fernanda Melchor is widely recognized as one of the most exciting new voices of Mexican literature. Her novel Hurricane Season, translated from Spanish by Sophie Hughes, is her English-language debut and was published by New Directions in March 2020. New Directions will also be publishing Melchior’s forthcoming collection This Is Not Miami .

    Nina MacLaughlin is the author of Wake Siren: Ovid Resung and the acclaimed memoir Hammer Head and most recently Summer Solstice: An Essay. Formerly an editor at The Boston Phoenix, she worked for nine years as a carpenter, and is now a books columnist for The Boston Globe.
