An Overlooked Piece of History
WHEN IT COMES to silver dollars that collectors simply love and go crazy for, it’s fair to say that the Morgan and Peace dollars are both right at the top of that list. There are also folks who are big fans of some of the silver dollars within the growing, modern commemorative series. The Seated Liberty design certainly has its faithful following as well but our oldest silver dollars can be tough and expensive to collect; and another series that is often overlooked is our trade dollars. Issued for circulation only from 1873 to 1878, the trade dollars are a short series with a fascinating backstory. Let’s look into our past a bit, and see what it might be.
