WR Waterproof or Waterhead Rating
Also known as “hydrostatic head rating” or “water column rating”, this is a test of how much water or hydrostatic pressure a waterproof coating can take before it leaks. For example, if you see a rating of 10 000 WP, or W/P, or 10 000 mm, it means the fabric can handle a 10 000 mm tall column of water before the liquid starts seeping through. The higher the number, the more waterproof the fabric.
MVTR Moisture Vapour Transmission Rate
This is represented as g/m²/24 – how much moisture vapour will pass through a square metre of fabric in 24 hours. The higher the value, the better the moisture vapour transmission rate. Basically, it’s a measure of how “breathable” the garment is.
