HELP IS AT HAND

THEY’VE been called the queues of desperation – snaking rows of people who often stand in line all night in the hope of receiving something the next morning to take home to feed their families.

The right to food may be one of the most fundamental human rights, but for millions of South Africans who live below the poverty line, affording even the basics has become impossible since the lockdown devastated the economy.

The poor have been protesting and pleading with government to provide food parcels so they can feed their families. Many children only have access to food through school-feeding
