In for a penny...

THE average amount spent on each horse annually in the UK is £4,174, according to the 2019 British Equestrian Trade Association (BETA) national equestrian survey. This figure is up 3% from that found in the equivalent 2015 survey.

While the average UK-based worker takes home a salary of around £30,420 (Office for National Statistics), this means we’re typically spending just under a seventh of our pay packet fuelling our equestrian dreams.

Job losses, pay cuts, furloughing of staff and recession has brought the cost of keeping horses into focus.
