Kona electric is Hyundai’s first battery-powered SUV. Prices start at $58,500 for the Launch Edition. Elite is $59,990 and Highlander, which we’re testing here, is $64,490.

The 2.0-litre petrol-powered Kona Elite starts at $29,500. Highlander is $35,500.

So you’re paying up to twice the price to go EV.

Kona’s 150kW single electric motor drives the front wheels. Its 64kWh lithium ion battery provides a claimed range of up to 449km.
