JOHN HUME
THE World War II veteran and senior master of the Cumbria Beagles died peacefully on 21 April, aged 97.
Born in Keswick in 1922, Mr Hume was in his final year of school when he helped the Home Guard by taking overnight messages from the police station to the drill hall. He was later promoted to guard duty.
