Waking up with a jolt, bleary-eyed and my head throbbing, I screamed. It was summer 1994 and my fiancé Kevin, then 25, was standing over me, beating me.
I leapt out of bed but he grabbed me, throwing me against the wardrobe.
My nose cracked, blood poured everywhere.
Fleeing the room, I quickly grabbed a coat and ran to my parents’.
‘He’s not the man I thought he was,’ I sobbed.
I’d been with Kevin since 1989.
At first, he’d been a romantic.
