A parade through the streets of London to commemorate the 75th anniversary of VE Day on 8 May has been cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Instead, the Queen will make a televised address to mark this historic occasion.
Her speech will be broadcast on BBC1 at 9pm – the same time her father George VI gave a radio address 75 years ago, in which he asked the nation to join him in an “act of thanksgiving” for the “great deliverance” of the end of the war in Europe and the defeat of the Nazis.
Her Majesty’s address will be at the heart of the BBC’s dedicated programming across TV, radio and BBC iPlayer to mark the anniversary. In the evening, will feature recollections from.
