Perhaps the Russian-born artist Wassily Kandinsky was visiting Morocco when he said, ‘Colour is a power which directly influences the soul.’ Because that is precisely how I felt when I was there.
Morocco’s flavours and especially its colours captivated me two years ago when a friend and I spent three weeks travelling through this historic country in North Africa. It was as if a golden light went on when we arrived. We also spent two days in the Sahara, on a camel, shuffle-shuffle, enchanted by the red-brown dunes, the golden-orange sunsets, the purple-blue evening that overflowed into a ink-black night, with the stars and moon silver in the sky.
