MOUNTAIN GORILLAS

THERE are two gorilla species: the western gorilla, which consists of two subspecies (the western lowland gorilla and Cross River gorilla) and the eastern gorilla, which also consists of two subspecies (the mountain gorilla and eastern lowland gorilla).
They’re all found in equatorial Africa and are separated by the 900km Congo Basin, which explains why they’re divided into western and eastern species.
Mountain gorillas are bigger than other species and as their name suggests, they live in forests high in the mountains between 2 000 and 4 000m above sea level.
