RALLY RUNABOUT
The vintage vehicle rally circuit is alive and well in Scotland, although there are some ongoing issues over Health and Safety requirements. Getting exhibits to shows is also taxing the minds of many enthusiasts.
“Old tractors are a popular feature of Scottish rallies, although transporting them to events can present a few challenges,” said Dougie. “Most of the major shows are some distance away from Alyth. Compared to old cars and lorries which are usually capable of travelling under their own power, tractors need to be ferried on either a lorry or trailer. This can significantly add to the costs.”
The town of Alyth is part of the Strathmore Valley. The area has a reputation for growing soft fruit stretching back generations, and during the summer months attracts a small army of tourists and casual pickers. The town is also famous for the site of an old hill fort, and legend has it that King Arthur’s Queen Guinevere was imprisoned there for a short time.
