TURNERS TURN 90

1930s – 1940s

Turners has always been a family company and was founded in 1930 by Frank Turner when he purchased a single Bedford lorry. That truck was used to transport vegetables around the local markets. Two years later, Wallace reaches the age of 17 and wants more, he wants to drive his own lorry and after being turned down for a bank loan by his local branch approached the nearby manager of Barclays Bank, who duly grants him the necessary funding to buy a truck.

In this form the company provides solid and reliable service to the local community only interrupted by the Second World War when petrol as well as food stuffs being in short supply. After the war in 1947, the company is incorporated as Turners (Soham) Ltd
