Husband-and-wife publishing team Prosper and Martine Assouline disagree on the adage that you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover.
“Most of the time, a book is kept closed, so it should be something you enjoy living with,” says Martine of the exquisite coffee-table books she and Prosper have been producing since the mid-1990s, as they welcome us into their spectacular apartment in Paris’s Palais Royal, the former royal residence opposite the Louvre.
Their ever-growing catalogue of more than 1,700 titles includes some of the world’s most coveted books on style, architecture, art, design, fashion, gastronomy, photography and travel. Fashion savvy, the pair have also teamed up with Cartier, Dior, Valentino and Louis Vuitton to produce hand-bound limited-edition books.
