madison de Rozario isn’t one of those athletes with a steely glint in her eye. Instead, she’s warm, empathetic and clearly doesn’t have a competitive bone in her body – all of which makes her a great companion, but hasn’t always been a benefit in her career.

“I nearly left the sport because of it,” she says frankly. “2012 was a train wreck. I expected to podium [at the Paralympics], but I was fourth in the 800m – and that was my best person, I can’t do it. I don’t know how.”
