THE PRODUCTION DESIGN ON DOCTOR Who really is a team effort. We’re a department of nearly 60 full-time crew, and everyone contributes. I’m in a very fortunate position where I bring all these brilliant people together. I’m lucky to be doing something I love, working with friends every day. Producers Chris Chibnall, Matt Strevens and Nikki Wilson put a lot of faith in me and have given me a fantastic opportunity to create their wonderful and sometimes crazy worlds – and we absolutely love it!
RUTH’S TARDIS
First appearance: episode 12.05, “Fugitive Of The Judoon”
Chris [Chibnall] felt that it should be more in the original style, then just let me carry on with it; he said, “It should be more like a Mark I” and let me take it from there. Whenever there’s Experience*, which closed in Cardiff two or three years ago. Our fabricator got it working and we added more lights to it and did little tweaks to make it slightly different, but it’s basically the shell of the old one. As everything is on , it was a very tight turnaround, but I think it looked great on camera.
