On 7 May 1945, Supreme Allied Commander Dwight D. Eisenhower accepted the unconditional surrender of all German forces at Reims in France. The signed document came into effect the following day, which became known as ‘Victory in Europe’ or ‘VE’ Day. Joseph Stalin demanded his own unconditional surrender from the Germans and so another document was signed
