There’s all the research involved in figuring out which blocks you want to apply for, the draw itself and finding out if you’ve been lucky enough to draw one, then the logistics of getting in and out, and of course the hunting itself.

Then there’s the frustration of having booked all your annual leave for the trip only to get completely washed out by the weather.

Depending on your approach you can turn the week’s hunting into a proper holiday, with a substantial base camp or sometimes even a hut. Or, you can be minimalistic and travel light with the aim of covering as much of the
