How to lift a small yacht from a trailer

Some repairs require you to lift your boat from the trailer. The ideal solution would be to use a crane, but what if this isn’t possible? There is another solution, and you can do it all by yourself!
Last spring I was due to have some work done to the bilge keels of my Vivacity 20, Old Duck. These sit on U-channels on the trailer, which prevent me from doing any kind of maintenance on their bottoms.
My original idea was to use the boatyard crane in our yacht club and leave Old Duck hanging there while I worked on her bottom. However, I didn’t know how much time I’d need, and if I’d need to do some fibreglass work, which could stretch to a day or more if we had bad weather.
