Aston Martin is set for a homecoming to Formula One racing. But perhaps not in the manner envisaged when, spurred on by success in international sportscar racing, the British company had a brief flirtation with single-seaters in late 1950s.
The latest sporting venture is part of a package driven by Lawrence Stroll, owner of the Racing Point F1 team and father of F1 driver, Lance. Stroll took control of the former Force India team in 2018. More recently, the Canadian turned his attention to Aston Martin as he watched the famous name struggle in the aftermath of an ill-advised stock market flotation described by financial analyst Jordan Hiscott as “an abject failure”.
Stroll led a consortium to buy a 16,7% stake in Aston Martin Lagonda Holdings for £182 million
