The Nile-View rooms at the Four Seasons enjoy cityscapes of fort halls, minarets, onion domes, spires, clock towers and skyscrapers joined at sunset by feluccas (river boats) setting sail. Cairo is built from sandstone and limestone from the quarries that skirt the city, and I have a sense of having stepped into a romantic film of a bygone time. Four Seasons breakfasts come in a delightful variety of flavours: cumin, paprika, cayenne, tomato, tahini, lime and date with aish baladi (an Egyptian flatbread).
