When the Sacagawea dollar was first unveiled, back in the year 2000, there was a torrent of press releases and statements about how this young woman was a valuable interpreter for Lewis and Clark and their Corps of Discovery, as they trekked across the newly acquired Louisiana Purchase all the way from Missouri to the Pacific. A person could be forgiven for thinking that she was some sort of angel sent to guide the hapless crew safely
