DRYING OUT
raditional craft have always dried out between tides for scrubbing and minor underwater repairs. At worst, it’s cheap. At best, it’s free. Perhaps because of the arrival of the short fin keel, which may not even be able to bear a boat’s weight, people no longer see using the tide as the default for getting at the bottom of the boat, yet for many classics, it works as well as ever it did. Any straight-keeled working craft is made for the job, as are many pre- and early post-war yachts. Assuming a few basic observations and skills, then, why ever not?
