The men most likely to dethrone Marquez
MARC MARQUEZ HAS RULED MotoGP since his rookie season in 2013. He has won six of the seven MotoGP titles since then and would most likely have made it a straight seven if Honda hadn’t got the RC213V’s engine spec wrong in 2015. The 26-year-old has an almost supernatural ability to ride a motorcycle beyond the limit. Legendary American comic Bill Hicks once said the following about wild-living Rolling Stone bassist Keith Richards: ‘Keith went over the edge… but he found the ledge beyond the edge!’ and that’s what Marquez has done. His unique riding technique gives him a ledge beyond the edge: when his front tyre skids away, he saves a crash (usually) by digging his elbows into the asphalt and playing with body position and throttle opening. No one else can do this, but the moment will come when rivals and/or technology catch up.
