NOT ALL BUILDUPS HAVE TO ORIGINATE WITH A rusted-out hulk, a pile of parts, and a dream. Sometimes even a finished ride can reap the benefits of a new owner’s imagination. For instance, Steve Curry of Goodyear, Arizona, craved an early 1970s Firebird for a particular purpose.
“I always had the intention to create a car similar to the daily drivers I’d had from the mid-’70s into the ’90s,” he explains. “They had mostly stock engines with a few bolt-ons, though occasionally one would get a cam swap. Some cars had custom wheels and others factory ones.”
