Growing up as a kid in Hawaii I was fascinated by surfing movies and, in the early 1960s, there was a guy called Val Valentine who came out with four surf movies.

Basically they were home movies, but nothing like anyone else’s. A friend of mine ended up getting Val’s films and, later, Derek Hynd and myself bought them. I started looking into Val Valentine. Who was he? And where did he come from? He wasn’t a surfer.
