Fluid Existential Inversions

METAL BLADE

LA’s avant-garde astronauts head further into the ether

HAVING BECOME INCREASINGLY complex and daring with every release, it should come as no surprise that prog quartet Intronaut are exploring ever more bewildering and bewitching realms on album number six. From the glorious yet awkward opening bars of Procurement Of The Victuals, Fluid Existential is a dense thorn bush of fiendish invention and ridiculous musicianship. Repeated listens reveal moments picked from progressive metal’s entire breadth. starts with the belligerent polyrhythms of Meshuggah before moving into Cynic’s spacey complexity and Mastodon’s mid-period, sceneshifting soundscapes. has numerous Tool-isms and gorgeous guitar noodling that the likes of Tesseract and Animals As Leaders have made their own, while shows what djent could amount to if hadn’t backed itself into a corner.
