Hot on the heels of Storm Dennis, Napalm Death rip through Cardiff with Eyehategod and take to the stage, the Baltimore death metallers have bodies hurtling through the pit as they pummel through material from their latest release, . It’s a fiercely energetic set, and it makes sludge metallers appear slightly apathetic by comparison. The crowd delight in the groove-laden riff of , yet vocalist Mike Williams retorts “one more song and we’ll be out of your hair forever”, as if the set has been a chore for the band to play. In contrast, Birmingham’s grind legends are on furious form, whipping the pit into a frenzy with scorching renditions of and . But it’s not just the classics that receive a thunderous response – frontman Barney Greenway’s impassioned speeches on organised religion and equal rights are greeted with rousing cheers. A cover of Dead Kennedys’ successfully drives the message home, before they throw a curveball finish with a cover of by Sonic Youth in true, uncompromising style.
