HOLLYWOOD COVER-UPS
TURNING A BLIND EYE TO WEINSTEIN
It took two years for New York Times journalists Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey to gather enough evidence to expose Harvey Weinstein for his abuse of at least 80 women over several decades. Along the way, they discovered shocking cover-ups, with Hollywood insiders admitting it was an open secret, even among the A-listers he continued to work with, that he’d paid out hush-money, threatened and assaulted victims and had journalists under his thumb.
It even became a sick in-joke – the bullying and violent character Harvey Weingard in Entourage was based on him, while on 30 Rock, Jane Krakowski’s actress character illustrates her ability to stand up for herself by insisting, “I turned down intercourse with Harvey Weinstein on no less than three occasions out of five.”
Had his behaviour been exposed earlier, he could have been stopped much sooner.
