Being the Bull

Whether you know it or not, Tilman Fertitta’s hospitality empire has likely found its way into your orbit in some form or fashion. The Houston businessman—worth about $4.9 billion, according to Forbes—owns Fertitta Entertainment, a collection of casinos, hotels, boardwalks, aquariums, amusement parks, and more than 600 restaurants, among them Saltgrass Steak House, Landry’s Seafood House, and Morton’s The Steakhouse. Not to mention the Houston Rockets, a team poised to make its eighth consecutive trip to the NBA playoffs in April. In 2018, Fertitta opened the opulent Post Oak Hotel at Uptown Houston, where he offices and where you can get anything from a Wagyu steak to a new Rolls-Royce from the hotel showroom, or a baseball cap bearing one of Fertitta’s business axioms such as “Be the Bull.” (He calls them “Tilmanisms.”)
