Footing it with the heavyweights
he Black Caps’ 2019/20 season recalls the famous curate’s egg. Two cartoons that appeared months apart in 1895 in rival English satirical magazines depicted a timid curate having breakfast with an imposing bishop who suggests the underling’s boiled egg isn’t quite up to scratch. Rather than risk offending his host and lofty superior, the curate insists some parts of the egg are actually very good. Not surprisingly, the cartoon’s – triggered accusations of plagiarism.
