Rally Mexico was when the picture of the 2020 World Rally Championship begun to become slightly clearer. The third round of the competition was halted early amid the worsening global health crisis, but not before Toyota had put one over Hyundai again as Sebastien Ogier lifted the Yaris to the top of the podium.
Mechanical gremlins crept in again at Hyundai, which thwarted Thierry Neuville’s charge, while M-Sport and its Ford showed a handy slice of pace.
Everything is on hiatus now, which will probably please everyone apart from team boss Tommi Makinen at Toyota. He can sit pretty at the top of the pile, while the others will be scratching around for answers to reel in the three Japanese cars. Here is what we learned from Rally Mexico.
