A DEGREE of differences

As I posed for photos in my graduation cap and gown, I was feeling pretty chuffed.

‘You did it!’ my mum, Janice, 56, beamed.

After three years studying English and History at the University of Leeds, I’d finally made it to my graduation day.

I was thrilled to bits, but as I celebrated with my friends and course mates, I couldn’t help but feel slightly self-conscious.

The girls were all wearing lovely dresses, whilst I’d covered up in a pair of black trousers and a loose-fitting shirt.

By now, I was nearly 19
