The Skyline Story
Nissan’s Skyline is a fabled name in Japan — and was practically unknown on American shores until recent years. The Skyline name conjures up all manner of high-boost histrionics among a certain (younger) slice of the car-enthusiast population at large. It shouldn’t: Only the GT-R models are the hot ones that the kids are all screaming about. Not all Nissan Skylines are GT-Rs, and not all GT-Rs are Skylines. The truth is, most Skylines were, and continue to be, nice family cars that occasionally offer a little something extra for the keen driver.
A fair American analogy for the Nissan Skyline would be the Buick Regal and Century: Upmarket family transportation, with a little bit of spice available at the top end of the range for enthusiasts, and some competition history to help bolster the image over the decades.
