THE BEST CAMPSITES OUTSIDE ETOSHA
The rest camps in Etosha – Okaukuejo, Halali and Namutoni – all have waterholes that are illuminated at night. What could be better than watching elephants at the waterhole first thing in the morning, still in your slippers and sipping a cup of coffee? But these waterholes also attract buses, safari trucks and rented bakkies full of tourists – and accommodation rates are steep as a result.
If you don’t feel like fighting the hordes, there are several accommodation options outside the park that offer great value for money. The campsites in particular are often far superior: private bathrooms, more privacy in general, and cheaper rates. Some places have their own wildlife and waterholes: At Etosha Village, a gemsbok might steal the lettuce from your plate; at Etosha Safari Lodge & Camp warthogs mow the lawn; Sachsenheim is one of the best places in Namibia to see black-faced babbler…

At each place we give the per person rate and the family rate (two adults and two children under 12) so you can compare these with camping in Etosha.
Camping in the park costs R333 per adult; half-price per child aged 6 – 12 – about R1 000 per night for a family of four (rates to increase in July 2020).
