Growing pains

hen I launchedmagazine, many years ago, we quizzed our new readers about their own gardens. It turned out the average time they’d had their current garden was 15 years, yet paradoxically most described their plot as ‘still in development’. The non-gardeners in the company couldn’t understand this, but us growers just nodded sagely and smiled – gardeners are never truly content and are always striving for something better. So, for new inspiration, we could all do a lot worse than study the three iconic female gardeners featured on page 10. I know I will!
