TOUGH LIFE, being a rugbyman. And, paradoxically, the better you are at it, the tougher life becomes. In many jobs, reaching the top of the pile affords a certain level of privilege and ease. I have a friend who recently qualified as a consultant, and while his earnings have leapt up, suddenly he has the time to recognise his two young children. More responsibility but also more leeway.
