THOUGHT PARADIGMS: A DIALOGUE THROUGH ART
“Have you heard about Daedalus?” asks artist TV Santhosh as we walk through artist Sanchayan Ghosh’s site-specific, labyrinthine installation titled Doosra. Santhosh goes on to tell us about the legendary architect of Greek mythology, who built the Labyrinth for Minos, King of Crete, in order to incarcerate in it the Minotaur, a creature half human, half bull. His achievement was to create a maze so incomprehensible to perception that no creature could possibly escape it, but is fated to be imprisoned in his own contraption. “His design worked without fail even for himself,” says Santhosh.
In a strange way, both the Greek myth and Ghosh’s installation are metaphors of how we often get trapped in our creations. That Doosra reminded Santhosh of this myth was not just incidental.
