GOING OUT on a HIGH NOTE

AS SHE STOOD ATOP THE PODIUM AT THE 2018 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS IN MILAN, ITALY—ADMITTEDLY SHOCKED TO BE THERE — KAETLYN OSMOND’S HEAD WAS SPINNING.

AS MANY THOUGHTS FLOWED THROUGH HER MIND AT THAT MOMENT, ONE IN PARTICULAR STOOD OUT ABOVE THE REST. THIS IS WHERE AND HOW IT IS SUPPOSED TO END, OSMOND TOLD HERSELF.

MY COMPETITIVE JOURNEY IS COMPLETE.

Though it took Kaetlyn Osmond a year to finally say the words out loud, she now admits that she knew those World Championships would be her final competition, that she was ready to retire from that side of figure skating and move into the next phase of her career.

And to do it at age 23 … many who do not know her story wondered why she would walk away when her career appeared to be trending upward.

“I pretty much knew then, but it was still a mixture of emotions and exhaustion and I didn’t want to rush into making a decision about something that was quite drastic,” Osmond said of her mindset in Milan, the final stop in what had been a long season that was physically and emotionally draining. “This past year has been, for me, to take the time.
