Lydia Perović reflects on audience behaviour—across national, class and gender lines
That an audience is a culture, that much I knew. But I am always intrigued by how much audiences differ when I travel outside Canada. As the applause kept going for pianist Yuja Wang after her fifth encore at the Philharmonie de Paris this June, I was certain it couldn’t. And while I’ve never seen Parisians give a standing ovation before, here they rose to their feet multiple times.
